I recently got back into photography after a hiatus of never actually getting really into it. I bought a Sony A7C and a 55m f/1.8 lens and started taking photoshoots of friends and what not. I was happy with the results; one of those even got used for their wedding invitation!

Then, somewhere in July 2024 I decided to go a bit more serious than that and enrolled myself into a private tutoring session with a local photographer. She gave me a 3 months course that covered the basics of portrait photography, composition, lighting and working with models. Since portrait photography is my main interest, I was really happy with the results.

I think this one really captures my friend's essence.

Earlier this month I also enrolled myself into a 2-day workshop about nude portrait photography. Being an ex-art student (and former “model” myself) I felt a bit like coming back to a mental place I hadn’t visited in a while. The workshop teacher, Danae Kotsiras, kept the whole vibe super professional and relaxed the whole time. I genuinely enjoyed working with the other assistants and the models themselves. Turns out she was very into D&D as well! Small world.

I’m really happy with how things are going so far. Reconnecting with an old hobbie I had long forgotten about is refreshing. I also feel like I’m learning a lot and improving my skills. I can’t wait to see where this takes me.

I have a couple photoshoots lined up for the following weeks (still free of charge!) so hopefully I can build enough confidence to start charging for them. I’m still on the fence about turning this into a side hustle, but hey, one step at a time.
